I was watching 'How to Train Your Dragon' and this image for some reason clicked in my mind....
And if you think about it, Vikings are only called Vikings when they're out on the water pillaging and raiding.... but when they're on the land they're called Norsemen. And Thor is one of the Norse Gods; NO ONE else is to hold Mjølnir but Thor, himself!!! So, don't think about it, Stoick.... Hiccup's got his reason's for not going for the hammer!!

Actually, it's 'If he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor' If Odin or Mjolnir thought Hiccup was worthy, or Stoick for that matter, they would be able to lift the hammer. Not trying to discriminate against it, just pointing out a fact.
